The Obituary
Patricia Yvonne Rooney was born on March 5, 1960 to the late Elmer and Marjorie Rooney in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from West Philadelphia High School. She briefly attended veterinary school in Iowa, she attended and graduated from the University of Maryland. Upon her return to Philadelphia, Patricia chose to work with children. She met Mrs. Berch who worked in the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. With Mrs. Berch's help, Pat secured a job with the Recreation department. That job became a career to which she gave her best for many years. She was instrumental in starting various children's programs at four recreation centers in the Philadelphia area. Some of her programs included: after school tutoring, basketball, summer camp and summer work programs. The children Patricia met at the recreation centers loved their "Miss Pat" dearly, and she loved them back.
Pat Rooney had four loves outside of her greatest love, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved her family, children, and flowers. She had an innate gift for floral arrangements and worked a while part-time in a flower shop. She did beautiful flowers for weddings and funerals. Patricia's other love was animals. When she saw an animal that needed help, she would take it in, feed it, care for it and seek a loving home to nurture it. Her beloved cats were like her own kids. Patricia was an active member of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She was a part of the audio video ministry and was very devoted to her Junior Missionaries who were helpful wherever and whenever they were needed. She brought many people into the Enon church family over the years. She was very fond of Pastor Waller, who she said was more than a preacher, but also a terrific Bible teacher. Patricia loved being a member of the Enon Church family.
Patsy Rooney also had a very active ministry to senior citizens. She was very respectful with her seniors and was concerned about their quality of life. She would visit with them, shop for them, provide transportation with her own vehicle, and of course share the good news of Jesus Christ and the power of prayer with them. She volunteered at various nursing homes throughout the city where the seniors came to know and love her.
Patricia Yvonne Rooney was a strong, God fearing woman. By the strength of her faith she dealt with serious illness for many years yet never allowed it to affect her attitude of service to God, or her ministry to her seniors. Pat loved people and she knew that God loved her and knew her by name. her spirit of sharing and service to others will be deeply missed.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her brother, Lee Patrick Rooney; sister-in-law, Josephine Rooney; nieces, Alexandra and Katelyn; nephews, Sean-Patrick; god-daughter, Jennifer; aunt, Myrtle Broyles; cousins, Linda White Billups, Sheila Broyles Hughes, Beatrice White, Vanessa White Corbin, and Lola White; and a host of Rooney cousins and White cousins; aunts and uncles; and many friends.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
