April 3, 1982, a ten pound baby girl was given as a gift from God to her parents, James Wilson, Jr. and Betty Marie Shorts Wilson. They named her BENAÉ JEANETTE WILSON.
Benaé had a normal childhood, being the only girl with two brothers, Jamey and Jarmaine to spoil and cater to her every whim. She was the center of attraction, growing up with plenty of smiles and much laugher.
Benaé was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, developing a keen interest in writing. She was very creative in expressing her thoughts, using the written word as a way of communicating her most intense ideas, without being interrupted by explaining every syllable. Benaé wrote them down and kept on going.
Life being what life is, unpredictable, Benaé was diagnosed with Lupus in 1996. Being a teenager and confronted with a disease with no known cure available had a tremendous threatening impact on her life. Doctor's and specialists at the hospital worked diligently with Benaé and her mother to alleviate as much pain as medically possible and to educate her on what could be expected as the illness progress through various stages. One major concern conveyed to Benaé and Betty, that having children was at best a miracle, if not impossible.
That miracle happened on November 21, 1999 when God blew breath into a baby boy whom Benaé named Tahmeir Wilson.
The ensuing years were difficult for Benaé, and to say that she didn't have her share of ups and downs would be a misnomer. Life is a challenge and Benaé was challenged and yet through it all Benaé never lost her vision and completed two years of college.
The details have been recorded for those who didn't know Benaé. What follows is what has been conveyed to me through her Spirit to speak to her family and friends as to how she would like to be remembered. This is Benaé talking, so listen up. The language has been modified so as not to offend.
"To my main girls Benita, Leslie, Mona and Tiffany, our friendship was solid as a rock. Just keep on doing what you're doing and everything will work over time until we meet again. We hung tough and you had my back through thick and thin. If anyone understood me, you ladies did.
To my family, it is what is was. I love you with all my heart and trust that the same was given in return.
My last and final request is as the next few lines are read that you recite each one silently to yourself. It's a very simple child's prayer, but it had good memories as I was growing up: Now I lay me down to sleep; I pray the Lord my soul to keep; But if I die before I awake; I pray the Lord my soul to take."
Benaé leaves in this life until the appointed hours come, her mother; Betty Marie Wilson, her father; James Wilson, Jr., her special mentor; Harold Tucker, her son; Tahmeir, brothers; Jamey and Jarmaine, step-brother; Myron Lee, grandmother; Bessie Shorts, aunts; Beverly, Deborah, Gwen, Christine, Pat and Wanda, great-aunts; Catherine, Mattie and Mildred, uncles; Glenn, Jonathan, Kevin, Amin, Donnie, Jean and Willie, great-uncle; William, god-mothers; Louise Durham and Yvonne Love, god-father; Jacob Durham, god-sisters; Mauri, Nikka, Aisha and NaeNae, god-brother; Josh, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Submitted Prayerfully and always with supplication,
The Family
