The Obituary To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. There is a time to be born and a time to die. — Ecclesiastes 3:1 Kathryn Veronica White was the Matriarch of the Luff, White and Williams family. She was the fifth child born to Martha and Hiram Luff. Kathryn was born July 26, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of five siblings. She and her siblings were raised in Philadelphia, educated, and introduced to Jesus Christ. She attended Sulzberger Junior High School and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. She attended Opportunities Industrialization (OIC) Center where she obtained clerical training. Kathryn worked many years for Bayoc Cigar Factory and Consolidated Cigar Factory. She worked for the federal government at the Quarter Master as a keypunch operation for some years, and then she became employed at the United States Post Office until her retirement in 1982. Kathryn was active in many organizations such as NARFE, AARP and at various senior citizen centers and became known for her handy artwork. Kathryn was preceded in death by: her husband, Basil White; her son, Hiram A. Gray; her brother, Milton Luff; grandson, Edgar A. Smith III; her sisters, Adena Stanley, Elizabeth Luff, Martha Rose Luff and Veronica Margaret Luff. Those left to cherish her memory are: her two daughters, Jeanette Jennings and Virginia Williams; her grandchildren, Bill Williams, Samuel Williams, Matthew Williams, Elizabeth Smith, Cheryl Brown, Kathryn Wright, Steven Gray, Hiram Gray, Jr., Derrick Gray and Bruce Gray; nieces, Josephine Willis and Patricia Banks; and a host of relatives and friends.
