On Friday, March 7, 2008, God in His infinite wisdom came to reclaim His own, a precious orchid from His garden of beautiful flowers, our mother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friends, Lena Ann Elliott.
Lena was born on November 13, 1933 in Leasburg, North Carolina to the late John Henry Elliott and Georgianna Swan Elliott. She grew up on her parent's farm with her 12 siblings. God and love were always at the center of he rlife. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Olive Hill Baptist Church in Leasburg, North Carolina. She proudly sang in the Olive Hill Church Choir for many years. She was educated in the Caswell County school system.
Early in life, Lena relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She believed in supporting her family and assisting them in advancing themselves in life. Soon after moving to Philadelphia, she moved her cousins, Diane Villines and her niece, Peggy Crutchfield Sudler, to Philadelphia with her. She loved them dearly, like her daughters.
She worked for may years for the federal government and received formal training to be a nurse. She loved caring for the sick and elderly. She bought comfort to many of her patients as a visiting home nurse.
Being a mother brought Lena the most joy in life. Her two daughters, Barbara and Lisa, were her purpose in life; they were her pride and joy. She sacrificed to ensure they were educated. She taught them etiquette and manners to make sure they were proper ladies. She guided them through each major decision in their life. She encouraged them to accept Christ as their personal Savior and to be active members of First Corinthian Baptist Church. She protected and loved them as only a mother could.
She leaves to continue her legacy of love, daughters, Barbara Downs (Robert) and Lisa Crutchfield (Ralph), aunt, Hattie Winstead of Burlington, North Carolina, brothers, George Henry Elliott of Leasburg, North Carolina, Julian Elliott (Helen) of Hurdlemills, North Carolina, Donnell Elliott (Virginia) of Mitchellville, Maryland, sisters, Isabella Crutchfield of Leasburg, North Carolina of Leasburg, North Carolina, Francis Fuller of New Rochelle, New York, Geraldine Flowers (Kenny) of New Rochelle, New York, devoted godsons, Dennis Fuller and Kevin Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
