The Obituary
MARIA FRANCES SALVITTI BLACKWELL, daughter of the late Rudolph and Josephine Salvitti was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 22, 1931. In her early years she attended the Philadelphia public school system. As a young teenager, Marie moved to Hempstead, Florida just outside of Miami with her mom. There she would help her mom and learn to operate the family restaurant business. It was during this time that she met her adopted sister, Anna "Ele" Gray, they would go on to have a lifelong friendship that lasted more than fifty years.
Some years later Marie would return to her roots of Philadelphia, where she continued to work in the restaurant industry. In 1964 Marie was united in marriage to Charles Livingston Blackwell. They would spend forty-one beautiful years together as Marie was a devoted and loving wife, only to be separated by death.
As her health began to fail in the latter years she was cared for by her nephew, Thomas W. Blackwell V. Through this difficult time Marie always kept a strong religious faith and high spirits. She especially liked to do arts and crafts, as she was loved by all who crossed her path.
Marie departed this life on March 8, 2008. she leaves to mourn their loss: four sisters-in-law, Jean, Iva, Jannie and Dorothy; one brother-in-law, Junious; nephew, Tommy V; niece, Cana Lopez; and a host of other relatives and friends.
